Edmonds 2008 WAVE Scholarship Winner |

The Washington Award for Vocational Excellence (WAVE) program recognizes and rewards students who excel in career and technical education. The state Legislature created the award in 1984. Since then, more than 3,000 students have received assistance in paying their college tuition, boosting their ability to reach education and career goals. The Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board (Workforce Board) administers the award each year.

Students Awarded at National High School Journalism Convention |

Congratulations to Steven Dold and Nathan Yaffee of the Warrior Broadcasting Network at Edmonds-Woodway High School. Steven was awarded an Honorable Mention for his work on a story about the charity clothes closet run by EW teacher, Shay Hastler, and Nathan was awarded an Excellent for an on-site competition called Video Commentary. All student work was judged against a national standard by professionals in the industry. Winning these awards places these students in the top five percent of all high school broadcast journalists in the nation. For more information, contact Ray Johnson at

A Night At the Emmys |

MDHS students, Katie Childs, Nik Amar, Dylan Holte, Matt Reams and Tony Vezetinski shined on Saturday night at the 45th Annual NW EMMY Awards Ceremony. They were gorgeous in their tuxedos, suits and dress. They easily could have been on the red carpet at any national awards ceremony.
They were poised, mature and they made our school look great. They stood on the stage flooded with light as an audience of Who's Who of Regional Broadcast Television (Montana/Idaho/Oregon/Washington) looked on and applauded. In the front row was Kathy Goertsen in her first public appearance since her recent brain surgery, Aaron Brown (formally of CNN and of King TV) and J.P. Patches (and Gertrude of course). It was a heady experience and the way our students carried themselves was a sight to see.

Lynnwood High School Students are Honored by Sherrif Lovick |

During the Edmonds School Board meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 29, School Board President Susan Paine and Snohomish County Sheriff John Lovick honored the Lynnwood High School students who helped rescue a fellow student from his car, which hit a patch of ice and flipped into a ditch after school on Tuesday, Jan. 15. Honored with a School Board Recognition Award and a Certificate of Merit from the sheriff were LHS students Jessica Anthony, Gatlena Lat, Derek Bride, Justin Glanville, Alex Nguyen, and Tyler Elliott..
